Nike's Sales are on Fire, literally.
Since Kaepernick was already well-known by the public eye, Nike, an athletic wear manufacturing company took this as an opportunity to hire him for their brand. Since then, Kaepernick’s face has been spotted on many Nike advertisements such as this one below.
Although Nike took advantage of this situation, little did they know it would hurt them too. Days after the advertisement was put up, people showed their reactions to it through social media. There were many people who thought what Kaepernick did was good and supported the company but also others good and supported the company but also others social media where people would take videos of them burning their Nike shoes and other products.
This however didn’t seem to affect the company in anyway. Even if people bought products just to burn them, they were doing Nike a favour since the company only gained money. I personally think that the main reason Nike decided to hire Kaepernick in the first place was because they were aware of how much attention the incident received which meant they would eventually be able to make a profit off the sales when people who stood by Kaepernick purchased their products.
I totally agree with your statement. Nike made a really good business decision when they recruited Kaepernick. Although it was a gamble, they were able to increase their sales drastically. Something I thought was the possibility that Nike also wanted to stand up to politics and just support the good cause. Nike wouldn't risk so much if they weren't doing it for a good reason. The fact that they're protesting again the Trump, is such a risky move but it was highly beneficial since many people are now buying their products since they are supporting racial injustice. It also spreads awareness and gets people to join the movement.
