Voice Your Opinion!

In late September of 2018, an organization called "Knock the Vote" created a video and published it as a public service announcement (PSA) addressing the issue of lack of representation by young people during elections. The video demonstrates elder people confronting the youth and informing young people that it is time they start to make their own decisions.

While watching the video "Dear Young People, Don't Vote", I was thinking about the importance of voting and why voting can be such a big deal. Although this ad seemed a little attacking towards the youth at first, the message was brought across well. "Every single Election. We'll be there, but you won't. Because we're a generation of doers. Not whiners. And we're doing great." The video points out that we need to start making our own decisions and challenges younger generations to go out and do so.

Image result for vote I personally think the public service announcement was well thought out and portrayed its message in a brilliant manner. This ad definitely outlined the major problems that the future generation would be facing if they don't start voting now. Although I personally, am not old enough to vote just yet but the older generations that are voicing their opinions have finally made a say on what they want to see from the younger generations and the teens/young adults that are able to vote.

Some people these days are always so upset and complaining that they don't like how their country is being run or that they want to see a difference. The only way people can do this is by voting. Voting allows us to state opinions and discuss issues that we think matter. Sitting around reposting pictures and expecting the elders to make decisions for us will not help. It is time for the youth to step out and speak up for what they want and believe.

  1. I agree completely with your post! The ad effectively got their message across while doing so in an almost ironic manner. While also having the audience reflect and question themselves and their actions in voting. Although we are not old enough to vote, the ad already made me excited to do so. As you said, a real change comes from voting. Yes, protests and marches raise awareness and start discussions. But voting actually has us part of the discussions, and part of the final decisions. Voting makes a direct difference, and trusting the older people and other votes to make the right decisions will never be enough. I liked how you also acknowledged how our generation tends to "sit around" when it comes to political problems.
