Comment 1: Voting Doesn’t Grow Old- By: Emmit Tam https://writingwrongz.blogspot.com/2018/10/voting-doesnt-grow-old_23.html When I first watched the Knock the Vote video, I felt offended at first as well, even though I don’t live in the united states. As I continued to watch the video, it occurred to me how much voting actually matters. Right now, the elders are doing all the work for us but that won’t last forever. I think the video did get its message across like you said because it would have triggered other youth watching it. In your post, you said how we are always trying to go against what we are urged to do, because we think we accomplish it in a different way and I completely agree with that. The fact that the video told us not to vote is what will actually urge the youth to vote. Not only did your post cover the issue of youth not voting in a mature manner but it also stated the reasons why this video was effective extremely well. Comment 2: Click here to See ...

Instagram takes down Total likes?!

Image
Around late April to early May, news leaked that Instagram was removing the total amount of likes from peoples' posts. Many people started to notice that the social media platform had already started experimenting.  Jane M Wong was one of the first to notice the update being tested and acquired screenshots of it being tested. Take a look down below. Screenshots of the test taking place captured by Jane M Wong So why did they decide to do this? Instagram says the reason for this update test is to have users concentrate on their posts and interacting with the app rather than likes. “We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get,” Instagram says in one of the screenshots from Wong. The social networking service also stated that during the test, only the person who shares a post will see the total number of likes it gets. In today’s society people post pictures that they think is worth a lot of likes and will get people to like their prof...

Fake News!

Image
Let's be honest, all of us have seen a post on social media, a Youtube video or maybe even an article with a title that grabs our attention and lets us in on gossip. B ut after you clicked that post or video, you were probably upset that you got curious for nothing and spent your time reading something that was completely fake. I’m sure many of us can relate t o this feeling of annoyance and wonder why someone do something like this in the first place. Nowadays everything is on social media. Many people have access to the internet so just like companies put ads on websites to promote their products, people can put up posts or articles. I t’s all about the views. T he reason why people put fake news on the internet is so that they can gain money from the views. If they were to post something with a straight forward title, they probably wouldn’t get many views, but by putting a title that attracts people's attention, they would get much more. When I am scrolling through soci...

Culturally Inappropriate Costumes

Image
I believe that all cultures deserve to be respected and treated equally. Halloween is a day where people dress up in costumes that they think is absurd or horrendous. Some people are not aware of how their costumes may be hurtful or disrespectful towards a certain culture. All cultures have their traditional clothing pieces and that is something that holds a deep meaning to their hearts. I personally think that people dressing up as other cultures is simply out-of-line and rude because you can’t just mimic and say that you are part of that race if you are uneducated and have no background knowledge about it. During my previous Halloween experiences, I have personally never experienced an issue with my costume as a child. This is probably because I was not aware o f the problems taking place around me as a kid or also just because people did not find my costume offensive. Although wearing cultures as a costume can be hurtful, I think that not all people intend for it to be rude ...

Nike's Sales are on Fire, literally.

Image
Colin Kaepernick was a well known NFL player for the San Francisco 49er’s but unfortunately that didn't last for long. In 2016, Kaepernick took a knee during the American National Anthem to protest against racial injustice. T his action however stirred up much controversy. Not everyone was pleased with Kaepernick's action. Some supported him while others did not. Due to this action, Kaepernick is no longer a player for the 49er’s or any team for that matter and remains a free agent. Since Kaepernick was already well-known by the public eye, Nike, an athletic wear manufacturing company took this as an opportunity to hire him for their brand. Since then, Kaepernick’s face has been spotted on many Nike advertisements such as this one below. Although Nike took advantage of this situation, little did they know it would hurt them too. Days after the advertisement was put up, people showed their reactions to it through social media. There were many people who thought what...

Voice Your Opinion!

Image
In late September of 2018, an organization called "Knock the Vote" created a video and published it as a public service announcement (PSA) addressing the issue of lack of representation by young people during elections. The video demonstrates elder people confronting the youth and informing young people that it is time they start to make their own decisions. While watching the video " Dear Young People, Don't Vote ", I was thinking about the importance of voting and why voting can be such a big deal. Although this ad seemed a little attacking towards the youth at first, the message was brought across well.  "Every single Election. We'll be there, but you won't. Because we're a generation of doers. Not whiners. And we're doing great." The video points out that we need to start making our own decisions and challenges younger generations to go out and do so. I personally think the public service announcement was well thought out...
